Children's and Young Adults Books

Hachette Livre has roots in children’s literature as the founder of the nineteenth-century French collection for young readers called the Bibliothèque rose, and as historical publisher of the Babar books. Its children’s book publishers are skilled at keeping pace with trends and moving into new territory, with a repertoire that ranges from novels, in paperback and hardcovers, to picture books for all ages, from kindergarten through to literature for young adults. Television and movie characters add to this genre and offer new forms of media tie-ins.

Hachette Jeunesse

Hachette JeunesseHachette Jeunesse
Founded : 1856

It was 1852 when Louis Hachette opened his famous train station bookstalls and launched his first books for children. Although the heroes of yesteryear, such as the Comtesse de Ségur’s good little girls, the Famous Five, Noddy, Babarand more are still in the catalogue, Hachette Jeunesse has expanded and diversified its list considerably since then. Thus, the heroes who were on hand when the celebrated Bibliothèque Rose et Verte was first introduced (The Famous Five, Fantômette and the rest) have been joined by contemporary characters (Winx, Naruto, Star Wars) to continue the adventure with this consistently lively imprint. In addition, Hachette Jeunesse issues illustrated editions showcasing the characters and series brought to life at Hachette Livre over the years (Caroline, Mini-Loup, Gaspard and Lisa, Hortense, La vie privée des animaux, etc.). Through its licensing operations, Hachette Jeunesse publishes works inspired by beloved characters such as Monsieur & Madame, Noddy and Hello Kitty as well as the heroes of films such as Ice Age. Hachette Jeunesse also publishes large-format editions of internationally renowned authors like Meg Cabot and John Flanagan, while promoting French talent with series like Atlantis and Les Éveilleurs. The Black Moon imprint for young adults, launched in the wake of the Twilight/Fascination series from Stephanie Meyer, became part of the catalogue in 2005 and has now branched out to every genre, from paranormal romance to thrillers, science fiction and more intimist novels.
